Assessment

Comprehensive speech, language, feeding, and communication assessments — including autism diagnostic assessment (ADOS-2)* — to provide clarity, direction, and practical recommendations.

*ADOS-2 availability is subject to suitability and clinician availability.

Individualised therapy grounded in evidence and neuro-affirming practice, with a strong focus on functional, real-world outcomes.

Mady brings together her experience as a Speech Pathologist and Orofacial Myofunctional Therapist with a special interest in feeding. She’ll answer the questions parents actually have… the ones that keep you up at night wondering if everything is on track.

She’ll be covering infant development (6-12 months) and every attendee walks away with a free 0-12 month Milestone Tracker.

If you’ve ever wondered what the difference is between an Allied Health Assistant (AHA) and a Speech Pathologist - this is for you.

We’re seeing a lot of confusion around this, especially when families are trying to understand different therapy options and what each service actually provides.

An AHA:
• Delivers therapy based on a plan written by a Speech Pathologist;
• Cannot assess, diagnose, or independently adjust goals;
• Cannot write reports (including those needed for NDIS reviews or school support); and
• Is not eligible for Medicare rebates.

A Speech Pathologist:
• Assesses, diagnoses, and creates individualised therapy plans;
• Adjusts therapy in real time based on your child’s needs;
• Provides reports, funding justification, and clinical recommendations;
• Takes full clinical responsibility for your child’s progress; and
• Much, much more!

Both have value - but they serve different purposes. If you’re choosing based on price alone, you might not be getting the level of clinical input your child actually needs.

Understanding the difference helps you choose the right support for your child, at the right time.

Come take a peep into one of our school holiday groups!

Our incredible therapists supported some friends in creating their own play dough & slime to take home.

During the session, we worked on:
- Social communication: introductions, asking questions, reciprocal communication
- Receptive language: following directions & verbs (mix, knead, ect)
- Expressive language: commenting, questioning & requesting for certain ingredients.

We supported our friends with some visuals, modelling & of course breaks for when the group was too loud!

What this actually shows:

Sometimes what looks like “getting it wrong” or “taking longer” isn’t about behaviour - it’s about processing speed + working memory.

When we change the environment (add movement, reduce pressure, keep it playful), kids are able to participate, stay engaged, and succeed in ways that feel good to them, just like how we did it in the video 🤍

That’s what neurodiversity-affirming therapy looks like in real life.

“don’t squat at the same time” 🤝😂

Looks funny… but this is actually a great example of how tricky non-verbal communication can be.

So much of communication isn’t just words! It’s timing, body language, reading cues, and knowing when to respond.

For many of our kids, this doesn’t come naturally.
They might:
• miss social cues
• respond at the “wrong” time
• struggle to read body language
• feel unsure when it’s their turn

And what looks like “silly” or “out of sync”… is often just a difference in how they process communication.

During Neurodiversity Awareness Week, it’s a reminder that communication isn’t one-size-fits-all - and sometimes, we just need to slow down, support, and meet kids where they’re at 🤍
